COLYTON 0

LYME REGIS 1

LYME Regis continued their superb start to the year with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Colyton in the Premier Division of the Devon & Exeter League.

Joe Bond’s second-half strike was enough to deal the damage in the first minute of the second half, rifling in from the edge of the box.

The result sees Lyme top the league in the early stage of the season, having won all five of their league matches.

The first half was a battle for the Seasiders, with Colyton proving well-matched.

There were chances for Cody Bowditch and Sam Pollard-Jones, but they were unable to find a clinical edge, with the two sides going into the break level.

However, just a minute after the restart, Bond was able to curl an effort in for the Seasiders to hand them a lead.

Lyme, despite Bowditch having to clear a dangerous effort off the line, were able to hold on to the lead, and keep their 100 per cent league record going for a fifth game.

After their perfect start, the Seasiders hold a six-point cushion over Cronies, who boast three wins from three games.

Lyme Regis host Lympstone in the East Devon Senior Cup on Saturday (2pm).

Gerard Hitchcock’s troops then return to league action against Whipton & Pinhoe on Saturday, September 14.

Lyme: Meech, Bowditch, Knight, Wellman, Rockett, Vine, Bailey (Every 60), Parsons, Wormersley (Fowler 85), Pollard-Jones, Bond.
