ON a fine day, with the exception of a couple of light showers, there was a good turnout of 83 players for the Men’s President’s Putter, an individual Stableford off full handicap.

There was some excellent scoring and for some reason the conditions seemed to suit the higher handicap contestants.

Patrick Woolmington was the leader in Division One with 37 points but the top man in Division Two, Roy Gill, went four shots better with 41 points.

The winner of the President’s Putter came in Division Three and it was Tony Colborne who triumphed with a fine 43 points.

RESULTS Division One: 1 Patrick Woolington (3) 37pts, 2 (ocb) Mike Vincent (11) 36, 3 Mike Savage (10) 36.

Division Two: 1 Roy Gill (13) 41, 2 Patrick Hart (15) 40, 3 (ocb) Dave Travers (14) 37.

Division Three: 1 Tony Colborne (26) 43, 2 Dave Rendell (21) 39, 3 Tom Wren (24) 38.

* Colborne had his handicap cut by 3 shots, Gill, Hart and Rendell by 1 shot.

Veterans’ Section

ON a warm but rather murky morning 31 teams took to the course for The Luton Ladle, a greensome Stableford.

The team that won were four points clear of their rivals, though among the four teams disqualified for not putting their individual handicaps on their cards, one team equalled the winning score – a timely reminder that even club players have to abide by the same rules as the pros.

Roy Gill and Malcolm Peach, with 44 points, won the Luton Ladle which might come in handy for dishing out the Pimms if summer makes a comeback.

RESULTS 1 Roy Gill (13) & Malcolm Peach (24) 44pts.

2 Mike Brake (19) & Mike Stockton (25) 40.

3 Keith Mundy (20) & Jon Winkle (24) 38.

4 (ocb) Dave Boggis (19) & Ian Wigglesworth (28) 37.

Ladies’ Section

THE ladies have completed the competition for the Janet Holmes Cup, writes Rosemary Shepherd.

This is played for over two rounds, the first a medal round, the second a Stableford.

The Stableford points are then deducted from the nett score to give a final total.

Twenty-eight ladies played the medal round. The winners were Di Loving (Division A, nett 72), Sue Winkle (Division B, nett 73) and Maureen Hicks (Division C, nett 75).

The Stableford round was played by 32 ladies but not all were eligible for the Cup competition.

Carole Brown (38pts) won on countback from Sandy Moger (38pts) with Sylvia Frampton (37pts) and Angie Shepherd (36pts) third and fourth.
