A 19-YEAR-OLD man was taken to hospital after being stabbed in Bridport.

An ambulance was called to a property in Gore Cross Way in Bradpole at 4.14am on Tuesday, July 5.

Medics treated the man before taking him to the Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester at 5.19am.

Police arrived at 4.18am and have arrested a 34-year-old Bridport man who is helping officers with their enquiries.

The injuries to the victim are not believed to be life threatening. Police have appealed for witnesses to the incident.

Detective Constable Ed Meanwell, from Dorset CID, said: “I am appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident or has any information about it to contact Dorset Police as soon as possible.”

Mum Amanda Holmes who lives in Gore Cross Way said the incident was shocking.

She said: “I am absolutely horrified, that is the worst, especially something like this happens on your doorstep and you don’t realise it.

“You don’t get it up here. You might expect it at the other end of town. I have lived in this area for 14 years and it is lovely up here. All our kids play up the park. It is mostly people with young families or it is the elderly.”

Retired builder Henry Petty, who has lived in the area for 20 years, said he was not surprised as there had been trouble in the area in the past.

The 68-year-old said: “The police were up and down here this morning but then again they are always up and down here.”

He said that the police brought dogs with them.

Another long-term resident, who did not want to be named, said it was normally a lovely neighbourhood, although she had witnessed a drunken fight about a fortnight ago.

Witnesses and anyone with information is urged to call Dorset Police on 01305 222222 quoting incident number 05:51.
