GLASTONBURY Festival organiser Michael Eavis was arguably one of the busiest people in the country last week – but he still found time for a bit of light reading.

He took time to look through the Lyme Regis News while at the famous festival in Somerset.

Simon Bennett, who owns the Old Watch House Fish Shop in Lyme Regis, spotted him there.

“I actually met him out and about,’’ he said. “I was using the newspaper as a pillow in the main pyramid field.

“I have taken a newspaper with me for the last two years looking for someone famous.

“I was very close to getting U2. I’ve got a friend who used to be their agent, who is one of my customers, but he couldn’t organise it because he didn’t have the right people at the festival.

“It would have been great to have Bono.”

Simon said Michael Eavis was only too happy to pose for a picture.

“He was very pleasant considering it was Sunday and he had had a hard week,” said Simon.

“He said the festival was very difficult for him this year but very rewarding.

“He said he really liked Lyme Regis and he looked forward to getting there soon.

“He asked for a pen to do the crossword but none of us had one.”

This was Simon’s ninth Glastonbury Festival and his highlights were U2 and Chemical Brothers.

He said: “It was hard work but the last day was really nice weather.

“There were about 40 people from Lyme Regis so it’s like a home from home.

“It always gets better, you never get bored because it’s different every year.”
