YOUNGSTERS are being urged to roll up to win a chance of becoming Bridport Carnival royalty on Sunday, June 26.
A Junior Bridport’s Got Talent is being held at the Conservative Club in North Street at 2.30pm to pick this year’s princess, attendants and male escort.
The princess and her entourage will have the privilege of leading the procession and being the guest of honour at carnival events in August.
Hopefuls can fill in the form printed today and drop it into the Bridport News office in East Street or turn up on Sunday but they must have the form with parent or guardian’s signature or the parent/guardian with them to give permission if under 16.
Last year’s Carnival Princess Lucy Paull has already urged young people to come forward to take this year’s crown for the 40th anniversary carnival.
The 15-year-old said she had a great time after being crowned as the Princess for last year’s extravaganza.
Lucy said: “It was really good.
“I was excited and a bit nervous but I was always smiling during the day.
“The parade and torchlight procession were really good.
“I got to press the button to start the fireworks. It was really fun.”
Entrants in the Bridport News-backed contest must perform a song, dance or other entertainment routine in front of a panel of three independent judges.
There are two age categories for girls: from seven to 11 and from 12 to 16.
Judges will pick a princess and two girls as attendants.
There is also a category for boys aged seven to 11 to become the princess’s escort.
Lucy will crown the winners on the afternoon.
It is an extra special honour this year as it is the 40th anniversary carnival.
The princess and her entourage will take pride of place in the grand procession on Saturday, August 20, and at the torchlight procession the next day.
She will also be able to attend as many events as she likes in the packed programme of events leading up to carnival weekend.
Anyone who has already sent a form to the Bridport News is asked to turn up for 2.30pm at the Conservative Club in Bridport.
Others can enter on the day but need their parent or guardian’s permission if under 16.
Entry is free.
