THE Marine Theatre is working to secure its future with a new business plan in place.

The Lyme Regis theatre was on the brink of closure in December but was saved by a £30,000 grant from Lyme Regis Town Council.

Trustees have been working with a professional consultant, paid for by West Dorset District Council, to develop a business plan to get the venue back on track.

The plan was presented to the town council last week by David Edwards, acting chairman of the Lyme Arts Community Trust, who replaces John Bartholomew.

The plan said: “The trustees are totally committed to the future of the Marine Theatre and spend many hours on theatre business.”

The plan admits that the theatre ‘operates within very tight margins’ and would not be viable without the ongoing support of the town council, which gives £32,000 annually, and the district council, which gives £7,500 annually.

“All other income is earned or donated, with substantial reliance on box office income,” the plan says.
