MORE than 100 owners and their pets turned out for the Brit Valley Rotary dog show in West Bay.
Sylvia Coggle and Hannah Slater judged the entries in the two show rings. Entries ranged from an enormous black Newfoundland to perky Jack Russells and sleek greyhounds and whippets.
The overall winner of the pedigree classes and recipient of the Jessie James Cup was a whippett called Lucie belonging to Mr and Mrs J Bridge. Lucie went on to win the Daisy Perpetual Cup awarded for the Best in Show.
In the fun ring the overall winner was Murphy, owned by Poppy O’Flanagan. Murphy had won the Best Rescue class and was awarded the Ron Short cup. Rotarian John Dobinson said: “The Dorset Police Dog Display Team were much missed this year as financial restrictions prevented them from appearing.
“But we welcomed back the Portland Dog Agility Team who gave two excellent demonstrations.”
There were trade stands, charity stalls and food served by the Rotary Club and members of the Inner Wheel Club of Bridport. The show’s main sponsor was Derek James Investments Ltd. Mr James lost his German Shepherd, Jessie, just a few months ago and his sponsorship was a tribute to their 17 year relationship. The main charity recipients this year will be ShelterBox and Hounds for Heroes together with other smaller local charities.
