SCHOOLBOY Rex Fisher hopes being the class joker will raise a few laughs when he supports a major comedian in Bridport.

The 13 year old will draw on his experiences of school life when he supports comedian Simon Munnery at Bridport Arts Centre.

Beaminster School pupil Rex is one of a trio of local stand-up comedians on the bill to open for Munnery on Saturday June 4.

Rex, who writes all of his own comedy for his act, said: “It’s a thrilling experience to be on the bill at a proper comedy show.

“I’ve been a big fan of stand-up comedy for years.

“Simon is someone I like as well as such comedians as John Bishop and Kevin Bridges.

“I get a real buzz out of making people laugh.

“It is infectious, fun and enjoyable.”

He added: “The Simon Munnery gig is a great opportunity to see behind the scenes.”

Rex has already performed four gigs, including at an Open Mic night at the Electric Palace in Bridport earlier this year and at the Angel in Exeter.

Rex lives near Beaminster with mum Helen, dad Nick, sister Kitty and brothers Rory and Patrick.

He hopes to make a career of comedy but will carry on with his studies as he appreciates he still has a long road to follow.

Rex said that he has been thrilled with the genuine support of friends, his school and people who have approached him after the show.

Rex will be joined by comedians Graham Whistler and Tom Glover at the Munnery gig.

Tom has performed gigs at other venues nationwide before his hometown show with Munnery.

Graham has cerebral palsy and started performing comedy in June of last year.

His act is about raising awareness as well as laughs.

Munnery comes to Bridport to present his Self Employed tour.

He has been in comedy business for 20 years and having won or been nominated for many awards.

He has also performed under the guises of Alan Parker: Urban Warrior and the League Against Tedium.
