YOUNGSTERS from Bridport went wild at a Weycroft weekend in a historic manor house.

The 35-strong group enjoyed the trip with the Church of England Bridport team ministry and the Axminster Task Centre.

The youths, aged eight to 16 years, joined in activities and fun during the long weekend.

Chloe Evans is the 22-year-old youth leader of the Rock Solid youth club attached to the team ministry.

She said: “We have had a positive weekend that has allowed the young people to be free and true to themselves and to develop friendships and grow in their faith.”

The Axminster Task Centre is based in a manor house on a site pre-dating back the Romans, near Axminster.

The Bridport Team Ministry invited the young people of Bridport on the trip.

Costs were kept low and it was open to churchgoers and non-churchgoers alike. Some youths were sleeping away from home for the first time.

There were water fights, a ‘total wipe out’ swimming session, a Scrap Heap-style challenge to make a teddy chariot, camp fires and poster making.

There were also teaching sessions on friendship based on Toy Story 3 and a talent show.

Four 16-year-old male leaders who had previously attended Weycroft in their younger years led workshops in football, music and bread making.

Valerie Payne, who is lay minister and team leader of Weycroft, said: “The young people were brilliant as usual.”

She added that feedback from the children included them saying it was brilliant and that they wanted to stay longer.

Weycroft Reunited’s meet-ups recreate the Weycroft experience for a few hours in St Mary’s church hall on a three monthly basis.

If young people want to come to Weycroft next year they can call Valerie Payne on 01308 458867.
