BEAMINSTER school pupil Daisy Wardle, 13, is hoping to impress music impresario Simon Cowell with her own songs after recording a debut album.

She has just recorded her first work but has been singing live on stage since she was five.

She is already making a name for herself locally and has just triumphed at Yeovil’s annual May music competition with her jazz singing.

She took part in the music festival singing an arrangement of jazz classic 'Stormy Weather'.

Daisy fought off competition from older girls to win not only the higher class but also the ‘most promising singer’ shield, awarded to the most promising singer across all classes.

Adjudicator Roy Robinson said that Daisy’s performance was ‘very much a case of the voice matching the song perfectly’ and went on to compliment her interpretation and stylistic awareness.

Daisy has recorded her first demo album called Drop it All, which includes nine original songs that she composed.

Copies of the CD are on their way to major record labels and Daisy is hoping that her music will hit the right note with the likes of Simon Cowell.

She said: “I have been singing solo on stage since I was five and it is what I want to do as a career more than anything.

“I also play the guitar and the piano which means I can accompany myself now at gigs.”

Daisy is soon to feature in a programme on a local radio station in Wiltshire in which she will be interviewed and perform live to listeners across the region.

She is hoping to follow in the footsteps of local Bridport musician PJ Harvey who has been an inspiration to Daisy: Daisy added: “PJ Harvey came to our school to give us a talk on what it is like to work in the music industry and that really inspired me to stick to my guns and write material in my own style rather than trying to copy others.

“I am hoping the CD and radio performance will lead to more performances or possibly some recording in a professional studio.”
