YOU would be mistaken for thinking all has gone quiet with the opening of The Hub youth centre.
Lots of exciting work has been going on behind the scenes with young people and the project partners, including the launch of the new website and the design of a logo.
Woodroffe School art student Ed Low has been working on The Hub’s website, which will be launched tomorrow.
The site, www.hublyme.co.uk, will include progress reports on the building programme, fundraising and any activities that might be of interest to young people to help develop their skills.
A-level student Ed will maintain the site along with Woodroffe media students and the technical department.
Ed, who is studying applied art, said: “Thanks to (project manager) Fran Williams’ enthusiasm to get young people involved in the launch of The Hub I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to design and produce the website which will go towards my exam unit in my A-level art.”
Dot Wood, head of the school’s art department, said: “As leader of the creative media course we have been delighted to offer the students the ability to work on real projects.
“Giving them the opportunity to liaise with adults in the community has given them an insight into the world of work and how important it is to communicate and work to a specific brief for an outside agency.
“The Hub project has been particularly inspiring as we are very pleased to be able to support such a worthwhile local community project.”
Earlier this year people were asked to come up with a new logo for The Hub and around 150 entries were received, designed either by hand or digitally.
The youth consultation group chose their top five and these will be shown on the website for people to vote for their favourite.
The designs will be on the website between May 19 and 31 and the winning entry will be announced on the site on June 1.
Mrs Williams said: “There was such a fantastic response to this competition, with hundreds of entries from individuals and groups of children, from schools, youth groups and young people aged between eight and 25 years. We had some fabulous designs.”
All the entries will be on display at The Hub later in the year where it is planned to create a complete art work on one of the walls.
