POLICE and Magna Housing have evicted a ‘neighbour from Hell’ who was using a Bridport flat for drugs.

They threw out the man, aged in his thirties, from the property in Downes Street in the town centre after he was convicted of offences involving heroin.

He was shown the door after a Weymouth County Court judge found that his convictions put him in breach of his tenancy agreement.

The man’s neighbours said it had been hell living near him.

A mother of two, who didn’t want to give her name, said her two young children were badly frightened by the experience of living near the man.

The woman, 25, said: “It’s been scary for my kids, they don’t feel safe.

“It’s still quite horrible.

“I lay down at night thinking about it. I know what kind of people they are.

“They don’t care if they are in or outside of jail so it is quite scary whether we are going to get any comeback from it.”

She added: “The hallway has been covered in blood.

“My four-year-old son was passing me heroin needles, four of them in a Special Brew lager can.

“We had to get the children out of the house when he set fire to a load of paper in his flat at 11pm. Every time my boy sees a police car or fire engine he thinks its coming to his house.

“We are still hoping that Magna will move us so the kids don’t keep remembering.”

She said there were often fights breaking out and her children would be upstairs having to listen to the violence.

She added: “The fights got worse and worse and his door was getting kicked in by the police.”

The county judge said eviction and repossession of the flat was necessary to prevent the property being used in a similar way in the future.

The man, who has not been named, was evicted after offences, such as possession of drugs.

Ruth Ashdown, who leads Magna Housing Association’s anti-social behaviour team, said: “We hope this sends out a message to other people who are engaged in criminal activity in our properties.

“We will not tolerate anti-social behaviour.

“It’s not fair on those who are law abiding and we will not hesitate to join forces with the police to stamp it out.”

Pc Scott McGregor, of Bridport Police, said that class A drugs were misused at the premises by the tenant and visitors.

He added: “If other residents in the Bridport area have concerns about properties please don’t hesitate to call at Bridport Police or anonymously at Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

County councillor Karl Wallace said there was a problem with drugs in the town.

He said: “Hopefully police will remain vigilant and stay on top of the situation.”
