A landslip in Lyme Regis has forced a road to close as the council looks to prevent a 'large scale' incident.
Dorset Council has a 'precautionary' road closure along Cobb Road after what it has described as a 'potential landslip' on the bank running alongside the top of the road.
Pictures show part of the land above the road has shifted and is perched precariously close to the road and whilst the road is not blocked there are 'serious safety concerns'.
Therefore, the road will remain closed until the council is satisfied that it is safe to reopen stating that public safety its 'priority'.
It currently has its highways team on site and is contacting local residents and businesses to arrange alternative access.
Pedestrians are still able to access the beach, the Cobb and surrounding businesses via Marine Parade.
Arrangements are also being made to make sure the RNLI and harbour operations are not affected.
It comes after Storm Bert battered the region with heavy rain and winds last weekend which has caused several road closures and disruption to train services due to flooding and storm damage.
A spokesperson for Dorset Council said: "Our Highways team is currently at the site of a potential landslip onto Cobb Road in Lyme Regis.
"Due to serious safety concerns, we’ve had to implement a precautionary road closure to both vehicles and pedestrians at the top of Cobb Road while we work with the landowner to assess the damage and help prevent a potential large-scale landslip incident.
"We are in the process of contacting local residents and businesses to arrange alternative access while the closure is in place.
"In the meantime, pedestrians can still use the seafront Marine Parade to access the beaches, the Cobb, and surrounding businesses.
"Arrangements have also been made to ensure RNLI and harbour operations are not affected.
Public safety is our top priority, so the top of Cobb Road will remain closed until we can safely reopen at least one lane and restore vehicular access.
"When we have a better understanding of the scope of the repairs, we’ll be able to provide a timeline for reopening the road.
"Rest assured; our team are working hard with the landowner to restore access as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding."
