Seven ponies have been seized to prevent their unnecessary suffering.
Officers from Dorset Police Rural Crime Team visited a field in west Dorset alongside volunteers from the RSPCA and the World Horse Welfare Charity following concerns raised about the animals welfare.
After an assessment from a vet, officers seized the ponies under the Animal welfare Act to prevent unnecessary suffering.
A spokesperson for the Dorset Police Rural Crime Team said: “The ponies are now receiving the care and treatment they need.
“The investigation into this matter remains live so we are unable to share any more detail at this time.”
