Almost £25,000 will be given away to Lyme Regis groups and charities thanks to brilliant fundraising efforts.
This year, the Lyme Regis Carnival and Regatta Team has raised an impressive £24,715 which has been awarded to 24 different groups.
Alan Vian, chairman of the Lyme Regis Carnival and Regatta, said: “Following the huge success of Carnival Week, Bonfire Night Fireworks and other events we hold throughout the year, we are delighted to be able to distribute such a significant amount of money and it makes the hard work and effort put in by the core team and our volunteers so worthwhile.
"We had to make some tough decisions due to having applications for funding totalling over £47,500, but we're delighted to be able to support so many wonderful local organisations."
The money is raised from a series of community events, including the recent firework display over the Cobb, which although free to attend, raised an impressive £5,250.
Those benefitting from the funding include: 1st Lym Valley Scouts - Uplyme and Lyme Regis, Axminster and Lyme Cancer Support, B Sharp, Charmouth Primary School , Cynewulf Morris , Lyme Heartbeat, Lyme Morris, Lyme Regis Charity Sleigh, Lyme Regis Christmas Lights, Lyme Regis Development Trust - The Seaside Store, Lyme Regis Development Trust - Welcome Café, Lyme Regis Foodbank, Lyme Regis Football Club, Lyme Regis Fossil Festival Lyme Regis Majorettes, Lyme Regis Museum, Lyme Regis Over 70s Christmas Lunch Fund, Lyme Regis Pantomime Society, Lyme Regis Sea School, Lyme Regis Town Band, Powder Monkeys Explorer Sea Scout Unit, St Michael's CE Primary School PFA, Lyme Regis, Uplyme Pre School, and Woodmead Halls.
Additionally, the Lyme Regis Regatta and Carnival group will also benefit from the fundraising efforts as it will allow them to host future events and raise even more money for local causes.
The team remain hard at work planning future events including the Christmas Tree Festival, the Easter Bonnett Parade, May Fete and of course the Regatta and Carnival Week which will return on August 1 – 9, 2025.
