A man has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after being reported by a member of the public.

Bridport Police were alerted to a man who was suspected of driving whilst over the legal drink drive limit. 

A member of the public had alerted a PCSO who subsequently stopped the driver and awaiting a police constable to take a road side breath test - which he failed.

After being arrested, the man was then taken to Weymouth custody for further tests, but was found to be just under the legal limit of 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath and was released without charge.

A spokesperson for Bridport Police said: "A PCSO from the Bridport Neighbourhood Policing Team was made aware by a member of the public of a potential drink driver.

"She was able to stop the driver and required him to hand over the car key's for safekeeping.

"The PCSO was then assisted by a police constable who carried out a roadside breath test.

"The driver failed the test and was consequently arrested and taken to Weymouth custody for further checks.

"The legal alcohol limit in England is 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.

"Further tests revealed that the driver was just below the legal limit.

"As a result, the driver was given suitable words of advise and released without charge."

"On the way back from Weymouth custody the driver has made the decision to voluntarily surrender his driving licence.

"We would like to thank the members of public for working with us."
