Residents of a street in Lyme Regis say they are scared to go outdoors after a terrifying dog attack.

As previously reported, police said a woman in her 40s was attacked by two dogs in Queens Walk, Lyme Regis at around 1pm on Monday, November 4.

Dorset Police said the owner of the dogs was not present at the time of the incident.

The woman was taken to hospital for treatment to puncture wounds on her arm and leg.

It is understood it took place at Hallet Court, a Magna Housing area off Queens Walk.

Following the incident, Magna Housing sent a text message to its residents in the area warning them that 'two large dogs are roaming free', urging them to stay safe.

Shannon Vickery and her partner Dan Cutler were visiting family who lived in the area when they heard the shouting and screaming.

Shannon said: "We heard the commotion. I said to Dan that he should go take a look.

"The dogs started chasing him so he ran back and jumped the wall. They were bullmastiff-like dogs, with a sandy colour."

One resident, who did not want to be named, has been double-checking that the dogs aren't around every time she leaves the house.

She said: "It was very scary. The poor lady (who was attacked).

"We were all at our windows looking out for them because none of us could leave our houses.

"Even now leaving the house you don't know if they are going to turn up. Something needs to be done because it is scary, especially for the kids.

"An hour later (following the incident) the postman had to hide in the neighbour's house after they chased him. "

Another resident, Nick Broad, said: "I went to the end of the road and there was a Magna van and a lady in it that had been attacked by the dogs. She was very distressed, in a state of shock."

Lyme Regis Town Council clerk John Wright said: “The town council is aware of the loose dogs and the incident on Monday. This is a very worrying situation for residents and we hope the situation is brought under control as soon as possible.

“We have been in touch with the local police and Magna Housing Association to help move things along.”

When asked if the dogs had been seized, Dorset Police said they had no further details.
