PART of a rural Dorset road has been closed after it was deemed unsafe.
Icen Lane at Shipton Gorge was partially closed for health and safety reasons on Monday due to an 'unsafe sunken and damaged highway.'
It is shut between its junction with Brook Street and a point approximately 1,000 metres east.
A locally signed diversion route has been put in place to enable traffic to travel around the closed sections.
The Dorset Council closure order is needed in order to comply with health and safety regulations, which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to highway users.
Any person who uses or permits the use of a vehicle in contravention of the Notice will be liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding £1000.
