An antisocial driver who made his tyres screech by accelerating and decelerating rapidly has been warned by police.

The 29-year-old man was seen by an off-duty officer on Wednesday, November 30 accelerating excessively out of the Bridport Football Club Car Park onto Skilling Hill Road, causing his tyres to screech.

The driver was issued the warning notice the next morning on Thursday, November 31.

A spokesperson for Bridport Police said: "A Section 59 Warning Notice was issued to a 29-year-old male driver, having been seen by an off-duty Police Community Support Officer the night before driving in an anti-social manner.

"The driver was seen to accelerate excessively out of the Bridport Football Club Car Park onto Skilling Hill Road, causing his tyres to screech and then to speed along the road into Alexandra Road."

The Warning Notice Section 59 Police Reform Act 2002 allows Police Officers and Police Community Support Officers to issue a warning in the first instance and is valid for 12 months. Should the driver re-offend within that time will risk having the vehicle seized, where the owner will then have to pay for the cost of the recovery, plus any additional storage costs prior to it being returned.
