A former volunteer stalwart with the RNLI in Lyme Regis celebrated his 100th birthday with the local branch and friends.
Fred Day, from Uplyme, celebrated his century on Tuesday, October 29, and was surrounded by well-wishers.
Mr Day was the honorary secretary in charge of the town’s lifeboat station from 1987 to 1994.
Three senior members of the current lifeboat crew paid tribute to Mr Day when they attended his birthday celebration, and presented him with an inscribed tankard.
He was a chief engineer with the BP oil tankers, and when he retired he was presented with a ship’s bell which he later donated to the Lyme Regis lifeboat station to mark the opening of the building in 1997.
It hangs just inside the entrance to this day.
Mr Day’s late wife Pat volunteered in the lifeboat souvenir shop for more than 20 years.
