Heavy rain is set to hit West Dorset tonight as a weather warning has been issued.

The Met Office has put a yellow weather warning for rain in place from 6pm today (Tuesday. October 15 until 12pm tomorrow (Wednesday, October 16).

Many places will see around 10 to 20mm of rain however the south west areas are expected to see "considerably more" over a six hour period.

There may be 50 to 80 mm of rain fall in some areas and the south could also see isolated thunderstorms and lightning.

Flooding and travel disruption may also affect some areas.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: "Check if your property could be at risk of flooding. If so, consider preparing a flood plan and an emergency flood kit.

"Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary.

"People cope better with power cuts when they have prepared for them in advance. It’s easy to do; consider gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items.

"Be prepared for weather warnings to change quickly: when a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area."
