A road in West Dorset has been closed due to flooding from recent storms.
As previously reported, a dramatic picture appeared to show a car stuck in standing water on Barrowland Lane, close to the picturesque village of Toller Porcorum on Monday (October 14).
It is thought that the water was around two feet high on the lane.
Now, Dorset Council has confirmed that the road is closed, with a crew in the area to drain and clear away the water. It is expected that the road will reopen on Wednesday (October 16).
A Dorset Council spokesperson said: “An emergency road closure been put in place, and our drainage crew is working to clear away the water created by the recent storms. We expect the road to reopen by this Wednesday.”
Chair of the parish council Neil Farmer took the picture of the car stuck in the water, and said that this incident was the fifth or sixth time this month that flooding has badly affected the road, saying that the immediate area has been badly waterlogged by rain.
The spokesperson for Dorset Council said that they are looking into ways to prevent flooding. The spokesperson said: “We are working with partners on a solution to prevent the ongoing flooding in this area.”
A flood alert was put in place for the Rivers Lim, Char, Winniford, Simene, Brit, Asker, Mangerton and Bride, but was removed on Monday morning as there was no longer a threat of flooding, though standing water and debris may still remain.
Dorset Council would also like to encourage anyone who notices flooding on the highway to please report it on the website at www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/report-flooding
