Organisers of a much-loved firework display are appealing for local businesses to back their event.

For many, the annual firework display which takes place at the Cobb, Lyme Regis, is a highlight of the winter months and the spectacle will once again illuminate the night sky on Saturday, November 2 from 6.30pm.

However, organisers need the help of local businesses ‘to ensure it remains financially viable,’ as they ‘don’t want to run the event at a loss.’

Alan Vian, one of the organisers, said: “This is an important event in Lyme Regis, run by the carnival team.

"We are very grateful to the town council who give us financial support, as well as local businesses. The main source of income is from those who attend. We expect to see between 5,000 and 10,000 visitors.”

Any surplus money raised for the event is given away to local groups and charities and last year, organisers gave away £22,500 to 31 different groups.

Mr Vian added: “We have already invited local groups to apply for funding for next year. At present, we have £19,000 to give away.

“The community is amazing in Lyme Regis. We come together and enjoy the event and invite people from surrounding areas to do the same.”

Mr Vian described the event as ‘one of the best firework displays on the south coast and you can see it from all over Lyme Regis.’

There will also be live music during the evening.

The firework display is organised by Lyme Regis Regatta and Carnival Committee and is free to attend with cash donations encouraged via official collectors on the night.

The Lyme Regis Regatta and Carnival Week will also return from August 1 – August 9, 2025

A spokesperson for the event added: “We're grateful to our primary sponsors Lyme Regis Town Council, Lyme Bay Holidays and SWIM for their valued contribution and to the local businesses who have already pledged support including The Slipway, Lyme 1 Hotel, as well as Beach and Badger and Coal Takeaway - Lyme Regis.”
