Person dies after being hit by train at Dorchester South

As reported, emergency services rushed to Dorchester South Station at around 4.30pm yesterday, Tuesday, October 8. 

Three police cars, a police van, one fire engine and an ambulance were at the scene.

South Western Railway confirmed that a person was struck by a train and that all rail services were blocked between Weymouth and Wool as emergency services dealt with the incident.

Sadly, British Transport Police has since confirmed that the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared by the coroner. 

Emergency services at Dorchester South station (Image: Cristiano Magaglio) A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: Officers were called to the line near Dorchester South railway station at around 4.30pm yesterday (8 October) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 4.38pm today to assist the ambulance service with an incident at Dorchester South railway station.

"One fire engine from Dorchester was mobilised to the scene and is currently working to assist the ambulance staff."

Crews left the scene shortly after 5.22pm.

All train lines reopened at 6.23pm.
