Lyme Regis hosted a special touring photography exhibition showing how local organisations are helping to tackle climate change.
The ‘Our Journey to Net Zero’ exhibition was held at the Jubilee Pavilion in Lyme Regis, featuring a collection of images that tell the stories of local organisations that are helping reduce the county’s carbon footprint.
Some 13 Dorset-based organisations feature in this exciting new exhibition, each telling their own story of how they’re cutting emissions and becoming more sustainable.
Each of these organisations are supported by Dorset Council’s Low Carbon Dorset programme.
This was set up in 2018 to provide free advice and grants to help Dorset organisations carry out energy-saving and renewable energy projects.
Cllr Belinda Bawden, Green Party ward member for Lyme Regis and Charmouth, hailed the exhibition as a success and said it was fitting that the town hosted such an event.
She said: "It was great to have this inspiring photo exhibition visit Lyme Regis.
"We have several businesses and community groups in the town that have received help from Low Carbon Dorset to become more sustainable. So, this was an excellent opportunity to showcase what they have achieved and inspire others to follow suite."
“As a coastal town, Lyme Regis and our surrounding areas face lots of environmental challenges such as high visitor traffic, waste management, and the need to retrofit our buildings, many of which are historic, to reduce energy demand and provide warm, dry, energy-efficient homes and businesses."
The exhibition ran in Lyme Regis from September 23 to September 28 and will be touring the county throughout November.
It is on display in Weymouth Library until the end of today (Thursday, October 10) and will then be at Planet Wimborne’s Green Festival, Wimborne Minster and Bournemouth University.
The tour will finish at the County Hall in Dorchester from November 11 to November 22.
Councillor Nick Ireland, Dorset Council’s new leader and cabinet member for Climate Change and Environment, added: “As a council, we are committed to addressing climate change. And we recognise that we have an important role to play in driving our county towards net zero.
“Through our Low Carbon Dorset programme, we’ve now helped hundreds of organisations reduce their carbon footprints. This exhibition is a great way to celebrate what these organisations have achieved and inspire others to follow suit.”
