ONE thing that the French do so much better than us is their treatment of road traffic collisions.

If a lorry (or any other vehicle involved) had rolled over and was well off the carriageway, the authorities would check that no-one was injured, then shrug in a typically Gallic fashion, leave it well alone and come back later to recover it when there was little other traffic.
We shut roads all round and create chaos throughout the local area while recovery takes place during a local rush hour.
