Residents in Lyme Regis are being warned of a text message scam about parking fines in the town.

Lyme Regis Town Council is warning people against the scam which is reminding people to pay a £25 parking fine. 

When people clink on the link it appears to show a council car park from the town.

The town council has released a statement warning people of the scame and that they would never issue a fine in this way.

A spokesperson for the town council said: "We have been made aware of a scam text message in circulation, reminding people of a £25 parking fine, which then appears to be a Lyme Regis Town Council car park when you click on the link provided (please see picture for an example of what the text looks like).

"This is not from Lyme Regis Town Council, we do not send text message reminders of penalty charges, and we will never ask for personal details via text message.

"If you receive a text message of this description, please do not click the link or add any personal details and let us know on enquiries@lymeregistowncouncil.gov.uk."
