A retired lieutenant colonel will be giving a talk about the German occupation of the Channel Islands in WW2 – the only British territories occupied by the Germans during the war.

Bridport History Society will be holding its next meeting on Thursday October 10 and Lt Col (Rtd) James Porter has been invited to give a talk.

France's unexpected collapse in 1940 suddenly transformed the Channel Islands from a relatively safe backwater to (potentially) the front line.

The talk will be exploring what life was like for the locals, how they lived alongside the German occupiers and the eventual liberation of the islands the day after the German surrender on what is now VE Day.

It will be held at the United Church Hall on East Street, Bridport. Doors open at 2.15pm for a prompt 2.30pm start.

Entry is £5 per person and all are welcome to attend.  Bridport History Society meets on the second Thursday of each month (except July and August).

Membership is open to all (£10 individual / £15 couple).  More information can be found by visiting the society website:  www.bridporthistorysociety.org.uk.
