A COLOURFUL sight can be enjoyed in town for the next fortnight.

People are invited to enjoy a Quilt WalkAbout of textiles in Bridport as part of its town of culture events.

The event, held in conjunction with Becca's Fabric Larder in South Street, will see an exhibition of quilts and banners on display at the Chapel in the Garden at 49 East Street, Bridport, from tomorrow, Friday, September 6 to Saturday, September 14.

Organisers say: "The yellow room upstairs will be full of glorious patchworks, flags and banners."

Tomorrow, Friday, September 6 from 2.30pm to 6pm, there will be music and a display of quilts on the forecourt of Bridport Arts Centre.

Beautiful hand crank machines will be there for the public to use to write a message to the world to add to other people’s. Meanwhile, Becca's Fabric Larder will be a hub of activity throughout the fortnight.

Many of the textiles on display were made at Becca's Fabric Larder and visitors will also be able to view a banner made by Bridport women under the guidance of textile artist Rosemary Edwards.

Margie Barbour, one of the group who made it, said: "It has only recently been returned to Bridport and so the women who made it are delighted it will be here for this festival."

It was created in 2018 for the 100th anniversary of women getting the vote, and its Bridport creators went to London to parade with it.

Banners echoing the Greenham Common banners created by Maud Kilcznsky for 'A Common Woman Reimagined' will also be on display. Visitors should enter The Chapel by the door in Rax Lane.
