The Dean of Salisbury, who has recently returned from East Jerusalem, will be laying bare the everyday reality of life under occupation.

Nick Papadopulos went on sabbatical leave this year volunteering in occupied East Jerusalem with the World Council of Churches' Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel.

From January to April, he monitored human rights, visited holy sites, worshipped in different churches, spoke with many people and many organisations - all against the backdrop of the war in Gaza.

He described it as an "overwhelming experience" and his talk will delve into what daily life under occupation was really like and the implications this will have on human rights and international law.

Canon Deb Smith, team rector of the Parish of Bridport, said: "What is happening in Israel and Gaza every day is devastating, complex and is at the heart of our daily news, our thoughts and conversations.

"We are grateful have the chance to hear first-hand from Nick Papadopolous, the Dean of Salisbury Cathedral, about life under occupation.

"He will speak of his eye-witness experiences of living and volunteering with the Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel and pose the question: what can be done to promote a just peace?"

The talk is free and will be held at 7pm on Monday, September 9 at St Mary's Church on South Street in Bridport.
