As the Bank Holiday approaches, we take a look at the ways to make the most of the three-day weekend in Dorset.

Temperatures are expected to be cooler than last weekend, with highs of 19C across most of the county. The Met Office has also forecast rain on the Saturday, but only through to 2pm meaning there will be a chance to get out and enjoy the weekend.

Here is a list of just some of the events going on across Dorset this weekend:

Abbotsbury Flower Festival

Abbey Farm in Abbotsbury are hosting their first ever Flower Festival, taking place on August 24-26 from 10am-4pm.

Around 30 stalls and studios will be present at the event, set-up by makers who create art and crafts inspired by nature.

There will also be talks, walks and workshops to take part in as well as a flower trail for children.

Refreshments will be available from Cherries Café with a flower and herb themed menu.

Abbey Farm is set around the large Medieval Abbey Barn and is home to Cherries Café, Abbey Farm Flowers, From My Mother’s Garden, Clare Hawkes Fine Art, Duir Crafts and Make & Mend.

Abbey Barn will be open on the day for visitors to view, following some recently completed improvement works.

The three-day event is free to attend and many of the talks are free, whilst some workshops and walks have costs starting from £8.

Whitchurch, Morcombelake and Ryall Flower and Dog Show

The Whitchurch, Morcombelake and Ryall Flower and Dog Show returns on Monday, August 26.

Held in the Whitchurch Canonicorum Village Hall on Lower Street, the traditional event will be held between 2pm to 5pm.

It will include fun events for the whole family including games, stalls, music, a Morris Dancing performance, skittles, and a dog show featuring 10 different categories. Entrants to the dog show are £2.

Ukrainian Independence Day

Also taking place in Dorchester on Saturday, August 24 is the celebrations to mark Ukraine’s Independence Day.

The event will take place between 11am to 2pm and feature stalls with food and crafts, as well as competitions, and musical performances. There will be a collection for both an orphanage and food for soldiers.

Dog Sausage and Cider Festival

The line-up promises a range of new activities including fairground rides, free pottery classes as well as live music from seven bands across two stages. Music includes sets from We Afro Tallawan, Dr Beatroot and the Leggomen.

On top of all that, there will be displays from Dorset Falconry, axe throwing stunts, magician performances, majorette performance from The Twirl Academy, stilt walkers and a Punch and Judy.

Weymouth Fireworks

Taking place at 9.30pm, the 15 minute display will wow audiences, who will have plenty to keep them entertained with the various attractions along the seafront.

Anonymous Festival

Anonymous Festival is a free event which is set to take place in Dorchester’s Borough Gardens on Monday, August 26 from 11am-5pm.

The festival supports a range of young local musicians, playing live music and DJing.

This includes 16-year-old Darcey Allen, 19-year-old Willow Moore from Bournemouth who released her debut EP ‘Nothing Left to Bury,’ as well as 17-year-old Corey Farwell, an aspiring singer from Weymouth.

Not only is there a great line-up of local talent across two stages, but there will also be workshops and crafts, games, activities, inflatables, food and drink stalls as well as even more music with Vinyl Van.
