A VILLAGE home at Winterbourne Abbas could be demolished to make way for five four-bed properties.

Dorset Council has approved an outline application to re-develop the adjoining sites of Conifers and Greenacres, next to the village petrol station and store.

The consent will be subject to later agreement over the details of the plans being put forward by Addis Homes.

The scheme includes an increase in car parking spaces from four to 12 across the two sites.

Parish councillors say the redevelopment, although reduced in number from an original proposal, is still too many with the extra homes likely to add to problems with foul water entering the South Winterbourne stream at times of heavy rain.

It also says further development in the village should be resisted until a bypass is constructed to the north of the village, as proposed some years ago.

The outline consent allows for the demolition of Conifers, with Greenacres being converted with an extension added.

The four new homes are planned to be laid out in a cul-de-sac directly accessed from the main road.
