Firefighters rushed to a beach in west Dorset following reports of a fire.

The fire was reported at 9.13am on Monmouth Beach in Lyme Regis yesterday (Sunday, August 4).

The cause was an unattended campfire, which had spread 200m across the beach by dry driftwood before being put out by the crew.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire fire and rescue said: “While we appreciate small campfires do occur at the beach. Please follow our advice on having them safely and make sure that they are fully extinguished before leaving.”
