It's ready, set go for a weekend of fundraising events.

The Shave Cross Marathon and associated events over three days are an annual fundraiser taking place in the tiny community.

Proceeds this year are going to Symondsbury Primary School, and Marshwood Church Community Fund - which is raising money to preserve the church as a community venue following the decision by the diocese to close it as a church.

Organisers said the run began as a bet between friends in the Shave Cross Inn about who could run the furthest - that was 76 years ago.

This year marks the 75th running of the Shave Cross (Mini) Marathon - there was no run in 2021 due to Covid.

Events began last night (Friday) with the annual car treasure hunt.

Today there is the 5-mile run and a family fun evening. The run is on roads and fields and there are numerous trophies available. Entries can be made online in advance or on the field from 6pm. The run itself begins at 7pm. There is also a barbecue/lamb roast, licensed bar, grand draw, children's sports, skittles and more.

On Sunday there is a tractor trundle around the Marshwood Vale beginning on the field at 9.30am. Entry is £10 per tractor which includes coffee and a bacon roll.

All events are held on the field at Kittys Farm, Shave Cross DT6 6HW (what3words sands.conga.finer) and have a licensed bar.
