Smashed glass bottles, bonfires and graffiti indicate that people are making regular visits to an abandoned building in Dorset.

Officers from Bridport Police have discovered new evidence to suggest that people are regularly visiting some old outbuildings near to the allotments on Charmouth Road, Lyme Regis.

They are now appealing to parents and carers to ask that they are aware of their children’s location and make them aware of the risks of bonfires.

A spokesperson for Bridport Police said: “We have received information from another agency about some old outbuildings in Lyme Regis on land adjacent to the allotments off Charmouth Road.

“The agency informed us that they have been visiting the location once a week and, on every occasion, have found new evidence indicating regular visits- graffiti, burnt candles, smashed glass bottles, empty alcoholic and non-alcoholic cans.

“Bridport Neighbourhood Policing Team attended the area today and located the buildings, unfortunately there was evidence of a couple of bonfires.

“We would like to make all parents and carers aware of the location and ask you to speak to your children and make them aware of the risks.

“Hot, dry conditions mean fire will spread quickly and easily, which could cause devastation and injury.”
