Fire crews tackle fire at Volunteer Inn, Broad Street

Three fire crews from Lyme Regis, Charmouth and Colyton were called to Broad Street at 12.39pm today to tackle a fire in a first floor kitchen of the Volunteer Inn

Four breathing apparatus wearers used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.

The high street was temporarily closed off to deal with the incident.

The Volunteer Inn subsequently issued a statement on Facebook to say that while it was suffering a power outage, the team were "heartened" by concerned messages from the public.

The post read: "Power out at the Volly so relying on 4G. A small fire in the kitchen has left us shaken but not stirred. Everyone safe and well.

"Normal service will resume as soon as possible. We’ll know more as the day progresses as to when we can reopen but the Volly will remain closed this evening. It’s heartening the volume of concerned messages. Thank you. Keep smiling."

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said: "Crews from Lyme Regis, Charmouth and Colyton were called to Broad Street at 12.39pm this afternoon.

"The incident involved a fire in a first floor kitchen which four breathing apparatus wearers extinguished using two hose reel jets and thermal imaging cameras."
