Lyme Regis has been named as one of the 'most beautiful' coastal towns in the UK.
The picturesque west Dorset seaside resort is known for its affiliation with famed fossil hunter Mary Anning, as well being a favourite for visitors looking to hit the beach.
Now the town has been named the sixth most beautiful coastal town as voted for by social media users, global travel site Big 7 Travel has announced.
The travel firm partnered with Holidaycars.com to discover the nation's favourite coastal town using their social media audience of 371k followers.
The ranking showcases the stunning natural beauty and charming character of seaside villages across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
From the rugged cliffs of Cornwall to the quaint harbours of the Scottish Highlands, this list celebrates the diverse landscapes and rich heritage of the UK's coastline.
Topping the list was New Quay, Ceredigion, Wales with Looe in Cornwall and Robin Hood’s Bay in Yorkshire the other English towns on the list.
The news has 'not surprised' the town's mayor, as he pointed out the west Dorset town's 'breath-taking scenery' and its 'iconic' Cobb.
Cllr David Ruffle, mayor of Lyme Regis, said: “I’m not surprised to hear Lyme Regis is in the top 10 most beautiful coastal towns in the UK.
“Lyme Regis is known for its breath-taking scenery, the iconic Cobb, the spectacular coastline, the picturesque harbour, the beautiful beaches, the fossil-rich cliffs and its fascinating history.
“Lyme Regis is a relatively unspoilt resort, with plenty of charm and traditional features. As you wander through the streets or along the seafront, you get little glimpses of how the town might have looked hundreds of years ago.
“It’s no wonder the town attracts thousands of visitors each year, many who adore Lyme and come back year after year and many others who are discovering our magnificent town for the very first time.”
