Fun filled activities and entertainment are set to take over Lyme Regis, as carnival week returns.

The Lyme Regis Regatta and Carnival will be held from Friday, August 2 to Saturday, August 10 with a host of fun things to do around the seaside town.

So far, proceeds from Carnival Week have raised £209,500 for local causes.

A spectacular fireworks display will kickstart the carnival vibes from the Cobb at 9.30pm on Friday, August 2.

On Saturday, August 3, Lyme Regis Sailing Club will hold their regatta featuring a series of races.

There will be displays from the mountain bike stunt team from the roof above the amusement arcade at 1pm and 3pm.

There will then be a performance by the Tano Taiko drummers at 6.30pm from the Marine Parade Shelters before a torchlight procession will light up Langmoor and Lister Gardens at 9pm.

Sunday, August 4 will see a family dog show at 2pm, a children’s beach treasure hunt from 11.30am on Sandy Beach before the town’s ‘welly wanging’ event at 6pm - this is where each contestant will throw two wellies filled with water, with the winner receiving the golden boot.

On Monday, August 5, the town crier for Lyme Regis will give a historic tour, starting at 11am from the lifeboat station. There will also be a junior town crier competition at the Marine Parade Shelters at 2.30pm.

People will get the chance to have a go at beach sports on Sandy Beach on Tuesday, August 6 from 11.30am. The beach will then play host to a sandcastle competition.

A whacky wheelbarrow race will take place on Wednesday, August 7 across various locations from 7.30pm.

Free boat rides for children are on offer on Thursday, August 8 from the Cobb at 9am.

Later in the day there will be a display from the Lyme Regis Majorettes at Marine Parade before a candles down the river event at the Jericho Bridge on the River Lim from 9pm. The event sees people sponsor a candle in memory of a loved one.

On Saturday, August 10, the Gig Club is holding their Regatta at the slipway before one of the biggest highlights of Carnival Week gets under way, as hundreds are expected to line the streets before the carnival procession.

Starting at 8pm, the procession will make its way down Pound Street, Broad Street, through Cobb Gate, and along the seafront to Cobb Square. Entries include individuals, groups, organisations and businesses as well as majorettes.

On top of these activities, there will be a town trail, stalls, find the ducks and a lucky duck event, as well as the chance to add to the Great Lyme Regis mural.
