A CAT that went missing for more than two months after its owner died has been reunited with family.
Ginge, a male ginger cat of about 10 years old, ran away from its North Allington home on the day its beloved owner Anne Clark passed away aged 94.
Mrs Clark’s daughter Susan English, 68, desperately searched for the missing moggy, putting up posters, as well as social media posts which asked for people to keep their eyes peeled for Ginge.
More than two months passed, and after several possible sightings, Mrs English began to give up hope.
She said: “It was bothering me because he was so close to my mum, and I knew he would be grieving, but I felt responsible as mum had asked me to look after Ginge before she passed away.
“It was horrible to happen on that day, but I was convinced that he would be back, or was just running around the area, but time just went on and on.”
Then, around a week ago, Ginge was located roughly half a mile away from Mrs Clark’s former home on East Street in the Allington Park area of town.
Mrs English said: “He turned up in someone’s garden and was found asleep in a shed. A friend of mine said ‘Could this be Ginge?’ And we went to see him together.
“It was so sweet when we got there as he seemed to remember me.”
Ginge was found with the help of the local community, said Mrs English, who put a missing poster up on the counter of her Bridport shop, Fruits of the Earth, which she has run for the past 38 years.
“I want to say a massive thank you to all those people who helped spread the word and kept their eyes peeled for Ginge. It has really put such a big smile on my face finding him,” she said.
It is unknown where Ginge was in two months of being missing, but the cat was unscathed apart from a minor wound on its paw.
Although Mrs English was unable to rehome Ginge due to having two cats herself, a neighbour has taken the adventurous animal on so the pet is close to her and she is able to honour her mum’s last wishes.
