Three weeks of overnight roadworks are set to end tomorrow morning - but more work is planned.

The A35 between Axminster and Bridport has been closed from 8pm until 6am on week nights since the last week of June.

The work has already seen pubs and residents complain at the lack of communication from National Highways and the impact the road closure has had on evening food trade.

Work on this stretch of road will now end at 6am tomorrow morning (Thursday July 18), however, work will begin from 8pm later today on the A35 between Bridport and Dorchester.

This next phase of roadworks will last until Wednesday, July 31.

As reported, these planned roadworks  will ‘turn the tap off’ according to one pub landlord who has been left 'frustrated' due to constant roadworks in the area.

National Highways says the work that has been scheduled at this time of year to maximise the working day due to extended daylight and better weather.

The work is being carried out by contractors Balfour Beatty and is repair work and maintenance for the National Highways which is responsible for the trunk road.

It is part of a £350,000 investment to improve the A35.

There has also been work on Chideock Hill, which is part of a £2 million project after a landslip caused the road to become unsafe.
