The Beaminster branch of an armed forces charity held a special celebration to mark its 100th anniversary.

A service was held at St Mary's Church to celebrate the centenary of the Beaminster branch of the Royal British Legion which was followed by a barbecue.

The branch also welcomed the new West Dorset MP, Edward Morello, his wife and family to the event.

Rev Chris Luckcraft, vicar and branch member, conducted the service with the reading by Aidan Smith, the chairman of the branch. It was attended by the County Chairman and the County Secretary together with many branch members.

The barbeque was held at the Memorial Playing Field attended by branch members, their families and many other guests including the County Secretary.

Despite the rain on the day, this didn't dampen the spirits of visitors who got to enjoy live music provided by the Prout Bridge Project Band and the Bridport Broadsides Band, as well as food and drinks in the Pavilion.

A specially made cake was cut to celebrate the occasion and Aidan Smith, then said a few words to honour the Royal British Legion’s work both locally and nationally.

A raffle was also held during the afternoon with a total of about £890 raised for the RBL.
