A major search was conducted along the coastline after clothes were found on the Lyme Regis sea wall.

The coastguard rescue team and RNLI from Lyme Regis were called out at 6.20pm on Tuesday, July 9, to assist Dorset Police after a wet unattended pile of clothes was found on the Lyme Regis sea wall. 

A full search of the coastline area was completed but nothing was found. 

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: "At 6.06pm on Tuesday 9 July, HM Coastguard received report of a pile of clothes found on the sea wall east of Lyme Regis.

"Lyme Regis Coastguard Rescue Team and Lyme Regis RNLI lifeboat were tasked to assist Dorset Police in a search of the coastline area.

"Nothing untoward was found."

A spokesperson for Lyme Regis Coastguard said: "On July 9 at 6.20pm we were tasked to a wet, unattended neat pile of clothes on the Lyme Regis sea wall. A full shoreline search was completed along with the Lyme Regis RNLI but nothing was found."

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "Dorset Police received a report from HM Coastguard at around 7pm on Tuesday July 9 after a pile of clothing was located on the sea wall in Lyme Regis.

"Searches were carried out by HM Coastguard, assisted by Dorset Police.

"Enquiries were conducted in the area to try and identify the owner of the clothes.

"There were no reports of anyone entering the water."
