An investigation has been launched following an attempted burglary in Bridport town centre. 

Dorset Police reported that a woman tried to gain entry to a property in East Street.

When disturbed by the occupant, the woman ran away.

Following enquiries, a 46-year-old woman of no fixed abode was arrested on suspicion of burglary. She has been released on police bail as officers continue their enquiries.

The incident happened at around 3pm on Wednesday July 3 and today, officers launched an appeal for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

Investigations Officer David Burn, of Weymouth police, said: “We are continuing to investigate this burglary.

“I would ask anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the Askers Meadow or river walk areas to please come forward.

“I am also keen to hear from any motorists or residents of the area who may have captured relevant footage on their dashcams or home CCTV cameras.”
