A cooking pan fire in Bridport has prompted the fire service to remind people of the importance of smoke alarms.
At around midday today (May 31) a cooking pan fire broke out at a home after the residents had left the cooking unattended.
Thanks to a working smoke alarm the residents were alerted to the fire and were able to put it out without the assistance of the fire service.
However, the fire service has taken the opportunity to remind people of the importance of having working smoke alarms.
A spokesperson for Bridport Fire Station said: "Crews from Bridport Fire Station have had a busy week this week from carbon monoxide alarms, to lock-ins and casualty care but today was a notable one.
"At 12.04pm we were mobilised to a cooking pan fire.
"Thankfully the residents, who had left the cooking unattended, had working smoke alarms that alerted them to the fire that was taking hold and managed to extinguish it without our assistance.
"Had it not been for the working smoke alarms this could have been a different story.
"Make sure you have working smoke alarms in your property and test them regularly."
