A charity golf event in West Dorset helped raise more than £8,000 for an emergency service.

Bridport Round Table’s first charity golf event, which took place at the Bridport Golf and West Dorset Club, raised a total of £8,104.51 in support of Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.

The event, which took place earlier this month, featured 18 teams who competed across 18 holes and other in-game competitions. After retiring to the club house for dinner and drinks, there was a charity auction and a selection of entertainment.

Ex-professional footballer Neil ‘Razor’ Ruddock was in attendance, regaling attendees with anecdotes from his career, as well as providing a number of items of sporting memorablilia for sale at the auction, including signed football shirts from his former clubs.

Daniel Cree, main organiser of the event for Bridport Round Table, said: “We have wanted for some time now to get another event in the calendar alongside the Beer Festival, the Boxing Day Swim, and the Fireworks.

“With access to such a great course in Bridport, golf seemed an obvious choice and also an opportunity to do a more corporate style of event to that which we usually put in. Given the support we have seen historically from local businesses at our charity events, we expected to make something, but to make over £8,000.00 on the first time is brilliant, and we are extremely happy to give all of that to support the exceptional work done by Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.

“We are already planning for next year, so watch this space.”
