Residents in Charmouth are being invited to attend a drop-in session tonight to give their thoughts on how to help protect the coastline.

Dorset Council is seeking the thoughts of people who live in the village and has announced it will be hosting a drop-in session on Wednesday, May 29.

Residents will be able to drop by at anytime from 2pm until 7.30pm at St Andrew's Community Hall on Lower Sea Lane.

As reported, the west Dorset village has been awarded a share of a £3 million fund that allows local communities to plan for the future with an ever changing coastline brought on by a changing climate.

The funding comes from the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and the Environment Agency's Coastal Transition Accelerator Programme (CTAP).

Charmouth is to share the mulit-million pound grant given to Dorset Council with Swanage.

Dorset council is in the process of creating an Outline Business Case which will be submitted in September 2024, with the programme then running until March 2027.

A spokesperson for Dorset Council said: "We are seeking feedback from stakeholders and the local community on what they feel can be done to help the areas adapt to the changing coastline.

"This feedback will help inform the Outline Business Case.

"If you live in Charmouth or have views on how the Charmouth community can adapt to its changing coastline, come along to Dorset Coast Forum's event on Wednesday 29 May.

"This drop-in event is a great opportunity to share your views and hear more about the new Coastal Transition Accelerator Programme (CTAP)."

The main aims of the CTAP is to accelerate strategic planning to set out how coastal local authorities, partners and communities will address the long term transition of communities, businesses and assets away from the coastline at risk.

The CTAP will also support the trialling of early on the ground innovative actions in support of medium and long-term plans, that enable those coastal areas at significant risk to address the challenges posed by a changing climate.

This could include protecting the heritage coast centre and redesigning some beach access and installing temporary car parks away from dangerous areas of the coast.
