A charity that provides accessible boat trips to wheelchair users and people living with disabilities in Weymouth has received nearly £1000 from donors across the town.
The M.V. Freedom is a 10-metre motor catamaran that has been specifically designed and built to cater for wheelchair users and those living with disability.
The charity has been running for 40 years and needs to raise £20,000 each year to maintain its service to the disabled community and their carers and family.
In the past two days, charity has collected almost £1,000 from donors including £488 raised from a successful quiz at St Nicholas Church in Broadwey, which was organised by Susana Malik.
On Thursday, May 23, two trustees of MV Freedom, Peter York and Chris Marlow, visited The Wyke Smugglers pub on Portland Road, to receive a cheque for £500 from Landlord Keith Treggiden and Becki Hunter.
The pub has raised this amount through running a weekly meat draw, with any profit made benefiting charities with the donations alternating weekly between the Veterans Hub and the MV Freedom.
The team at the pub buy the meat hamper for £40 each week and tickets for the draw are just £1, with any money raised over the buying price being donated to the charities.
