A group of friends from West Dorset has completed an epic 100km walk of the Jurassic Coast raising thousands of pounds for various charities.

Johnnie Barrowcliff, 27, from Corscombe, has completed the Jurassic Coast Ultra Challenge, walking 100km over two days along with his former school pals Dominic Huxley, Saskia Wood, Daisy Parsons and Martha Treves.

Each person completed the walk for charities of their choice, with Dominic and Martha choosing the British Heart Foundation, Daisy raising money for Mind UK and Saskia fundraising for the British Red Cross society.

Johnnie's fundraiser raised more than £1,000 for the Family Counselling Trust - a mental health charity which provides early intervention psychological support to children, young people (up to age 18) and families who are predominantly on low incomes.

Johnnie said: "Having grown up in Dorset, I’ve really come to cherish the beauty of this county.

"However, despite all it has to offer, there are limitations. And that’s why the Family Counselling Trust has been such an important organisation, providing counselling and therapy for young people who would not have been able to receive it otherwise."

The group set off at 8am on Saturday, May 18 walking from Corfe Castle, through Lulworth Cove and past Durdle Door, heading down to Weymouth. The friends finished their first journey at 10.30pm and camped overnight after completing 58km.

They left Weymouth at 6am the following day, heading past Portland Bill, Chesil Beach, and on to West Bay, before a finish line celebration in Bridport at 6.30pm.

While Johnnie said they all found the walk tougher than expected, he also described it as immensely rewarding and urges everyone to try and challenge themselves to raise money for a good cause.

He said: "We didn’t do a huge amount of training and we like to do hikes but we were all surprised at how much of a challenge it was but I feel like that added to the whole experience.

"It made the moment of completing the hard challenge very special knowing that we helped to raise money for a good cause. It was incredible and we're all super grateful for all donations.

"I would encourage anyone to push themselves as much as they felt comfortable to just go for it. It was really incredible as I got to see just how beautiful the coast is and experience what Dorset is like down there."
