Bridport's annual spring litter pick is back.

The big tidy up, From Street to Sea 7, will take place from 10am today, Sunday.

The event is organised by Bridport Litter Free Street Champions and the West Bay Beach Clean Group.

It sees residents come together to clean the town, with some getting competitive with fellow pickers over who can collect the most rubbish.

Once again there will be five meeting points where people can gather from 10am to start picking or drop off their local collection at 11am.

Organiser and Bridport town councillor Ian Bark said: “Sadly, Bridport still has its fair share of litter. Our streets, green spaces, rivers and beaches are all spoilt by those who choose to discard rather than dispose of their litter in a responsible, environmentally friendly way.

"In fact, I have yet to find a street that is truly litter-free.”

The five From Street to Sea meeting points are: the  Co-op, Morrisons, Seal's Cove and Ropemakers car parks plus the Black Hut on East Pier, West Bay.

To get involved simply arrive at one of the five rendezvous points at 10.00am and you will be provided with all the equipment needed to join in with collecting litter.

Alternatively set off from home at 10am picking on your way to one of the rendezvous points where you can drop off your collection of litter.

On previous From Street to Sea events the pickers have removed numerous large items such as car tyres, shopping trolleys, tents and even a fridge, all of which had either been dumped in hedges or in the river.

However, it is the mass of small items such as crisp packets, snack wrappers, plastic bottles and cigarette butts that do the most damage, breaking down into microplastics which pollute our rivers and seas, damaging habitats, poisoning wildlife and ultimately entering the food chain.

Cllr Bark added: "My message to the people of Bridport is, instead of moaning about it, come along and do something about it. By working together, giving an hour picking up other people's litter, we can make Bridport a cleaner, healthier and pleasanter place to live”.
