Preparations are well under way for the main festival, which is set to run from Saturday, August 10 to Sunday, August 18, with a nine-day art exhibition and six days of music performed by internationally acclaimed musicians.

Inaugurated in 1981, the Burton Bradstock Festival of Music and Art takes place in mid-August, presenting a range of events, including orchestral concerts, evening and lunchtime recitals, jazz and world music, intimate late evening performances, and an art exhibition.

During the festival, the village hall is transformed into a vibrant, colourful art gallery featuring original paintings, ceramics, glass and wood crafts by West Country artists. Most of the concerts take place in Burton Bradstock’s church.

The exhibition is run by volunteers and the revenue from the sale of the art and crafts goes towards funding the festival and to art education workshops in the local area.

David Juritz studied at the Royal College of Music where he won the college’s highest award, the Tagore medal. He was leader of the London Mozart players for 20 years and has appeared as a soloist in North and South America, the Far East, Europe, South Africa and Australia.

Tickets for the concert are £14 and can be booked through the Bridport Tourist Information Centre 01308 424901.

Tickets can be booked by telephone, by calling in at the TIC, or online at www.bridportandwestbay.co.uk/tickets/
